WORKERS DISMAYED OVER P12 ECOLA by: Owen S. Bayog

Negros Panay Alliance of Labor (NPAL) met with members of the media to vent out their sentiments over the P12 Emergency Cost of Living Allowance ruled out by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).  Workers from various labor unions were dismayed over the recent development and are pushing for P30-P40 increase instead of P12.

Minimum wage for Central Visayas is P285 for Class A towns, P265 for Class B towns, P255 for Class C towns and P240 for Class D towns. Central Visayas has between 85,000 to 100,000 workers.  Alan Gozon, of DALO, Hernani Braza (Nacusip), Randy Ronquillo and Winnie Sancho of the Negros Labor Coalition led the press conference along with member unions calling for the scrapping of the latest P12 Ecola to workers.

Sancho says the present increase does not suffice the call of the workers for wage hikes as prices of oil and prime commodities has gone up and so must the wages.  Leaders of the group tore down a symbolic RTWPB wage order to illustrate their disgust of the government’s answer to the plight of the workers in the country.#OSB
